We cover a gambling product on this site, which means we are also responsible for being straightforward about its risks. Casino and sportsbook play involve loss by design — the house or the bookmaker has an edge built into every product, and over enough time that edge wins. Treat gambling as paid entertainment, not a way to make money. If you ever find yourself thinking of it as income, that is the signal to step back.
Warning signs of problem gambling
Problem gambling often develops gradually. The signs below are not diagnostic on their own, but if several of them match your recent experience, it is worth talking to a qualified counsellor.
- Spending more money than you planned during a session, consistently
- Chasing losses — depositing again immediately after losing, trying to "win it back"
- Hiding the amount or the fact that you gamble from family or partners
- Borrowing money, using credit cards or taking loans to fund gambling
- Missing work, school or family commitments because of gambling
- Feeling anxious, irritable or restless when you try to cut back
- Gambling to escape stress, loneliness, grief or depression
- Lying about how much time or money you spend gambling
- Neglecting bills, rent or essential expenses to fund gambling activity
- Continuing to gamble despite negative consequences in your life
If one or two of these feel familiar on an occasional basis, it is worth being thoughtful about your play. If several of them are your norm, consider reaching out to one of the support organisations listed further down this page.
Player protection tools Coldbet provides
Coldbet supplies a standard set of responsible gambling controls inside Account Settings. These are the baseline tools every licensed operator offers, and they work as advertised — we tested them during the review process. We encourage every player to set them before depositing, not after something goes wrong.
Deposit limits
Cap your daily, weekly and monthly deposits to an amount you can comfortably afford to lose. Limits tighten immediately. Loosening a limit takes a 24 to 48-hour cooling-off period before it becomes effective, which is a deliberate friction designed to prevent impulsive changes.
Loss limits
Separate from deposit limits — caps how much you can lose within a period. When the loss limit is reached, Coldbet blocks further wagers until the window resets. Useful if you tend to top-up mid-session.
Single bet caps
Caps the maximum stake on any single wager. Useful if you know your own tendency to chase with larger bets when behind. The cap applies across both sports and casino.
Session time limits
Set how long you can stay logged in per session. Coldbet sends reminders at preset intervals and logs you out when the limit is reached. Breaks genuine tilt spirals better than any other control.
Reality checks
Periodic pop-up notifications showing time spent and net win/loss during the current session. Default interval is 60 minutes but you can set it shorter.
Cooling-off & self-exclusion
Short cooling-off periods of 24 hours to 6 months lock the account temporarily. Permanent self-exclusion — requested via live chat — closes the account indefinitely. Both prevent new deposits and access to betting functions during the period.
All of the tools above are found in Account Settings → Responsible Gambling on desktop and mobile. If you are in a crisis right now and want to lock access immediately, use live chat to request a self-exclusion — support staff can process it while you are on the chat.
Canadian support organisations
If you or someone you know is struggling with gambling, the following organisations provide free, confidential help from trained counsellors. None of them require a Coldbet account or any connection to any specific operator — they exist to support anyone affected by problem gambling in Canada.
ConnexOntario — 1-866-531-2600
ConnexOntario operates the Ontario Problem Gambling Helpline, providing 24/7 free and confidential support by phone, chat or email. Counsellors can connect you to local treatment programs, family support services and community resources. Website: connexontario.ca. Available in English and French.
Responsible Gambling Council
A Canadian non-profit that works to reduce gambling-related harm through research, awareness programs and direct support. The RGC runs the PlaySmart program in partnership with Ontario Lottery and Gaming, which provides education and self-assessment tools for players. Website: responsiblegambling.org.
PlaySmart (Ontario)
Ontario-specific educational resource focused on how games work, the math behind them, and practical tools for staying in control. PlaySmart centres operate at major Ontario casinos and the program runs online resources accessible across Canada. Website: playsmart.ca.
Gambling Therapy
A free online service offering practical advice and emotional support to anyone affected by problem gambling. Includes international helplines, live advisors, a moderated support forum and self-help resources. Available globally, including Canada, in multiple languages. Website: gamblingtherapy.org.
Province-specific resources
Each Canadian province operates its own gambling support services alongside ConnexOntario. Alberta has the Alberta Health Services Addiction Helpline. British Columbia runs BC Responsible & Problem Gambling. Quebec offers Jeu: Aide et référence through its health system. Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI, Newfoundland and the territories each operate their own provincial programs. A quick search for "problem gambling helpline [your province]" finds the appropriate contact.
Supporting someone else
If you are worried about a family member, friend or partner's gambling, reaching out to them directly can be difficult. All of the organisations listed above also provide support to family members and concerned others, not just the person gambling. You do not have to wait until the person you are worried about is ready to seek help themselves — you can talk to a counsellor about your concerns, get guidance on how to approach the conversation, and learn what support options exist for families affected by problem gambling.
Age restrictions
Gambling at Coldbet or any regulated operator requires you to be of legal gambling age in your province. In Ontario, Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and the territories, this is 19. In Quebec and Alberta's provincial lottery system, the minimum age is 18. If you are under the legal gambling age in your jurisdiction, do not register, deposit or play. Operators that detect underage accounts void all deposits and bonuses, and no winnings are paid.
If you share a household with minors and gamble online, take standard precautions — do not save payment credentials in shared browser profiles, log out of accounts when you finish, and consider content-filtering software that blocks gambling sites on children's devices.
